What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Fall has arrived in Chicagoland

fall%20leaves.jpgFall has been flirting around for a few days, but has arrived this morning.  I knew it as soon as my feet touched the hardwood floor beside my bed.

I padded out to the kitchen to make coffee and stood at the window, watching the leaves under the streetlight rollicking up the street on a swirling wind, chasing the cars and looking for all the world as if they were following the people to work.

I breathed lightly on the window and a misty round circle appeared.  My coffee cup felt chilly when I pulled it down from the cupboard.

Yes, I think fall has arrived.

And meanwhile, fall is pretty much over here - the leaves are gone and we're supposed to get SNOW tonight. SNOW!

Really? Are you ready for that?!

I had the furnace on this morning.

heheheh. Tom's takes it as a challenge every fall NOT to turn on the furnace until November first if at all possible! We wear hoodies and socks and feel somehow as if we've scored points against winter if we ever make it to November 1st without the furnace.

It was nearly 90 degrees here on Monday, 75 on Tuesday and 50 for a high temp on Wednesday. I went from having the a/c on to the furnace within 24 hours!
There is no way I could stand not having the furnace on until Nov. 1. My fingers and toes would be blue-sometimes they still are even with the heat on. My circulation is too bad for that.

We had the same kind of weather, too! Glad Tony doesn't play Tom's furnace game!

hurray! Oh and I l-o-v-e your new header!! So inviting...

Thanks, Ellen! I've had it ready for some time now; just waiting until the weather got chilly.

I think we had the same weather as Sally described. Fall had been held back in these parts by a lingering warm front--a heat wave--but has battered its way through and made a bold appearance.

Your poetic description captured it well. I especially liked:

"...watching the leaves under the streetlight rollicking up the street on a swirling wind..."

Lovely...even though I hate the cold, I appreciated your way of capturing its arrival in words.

Believe it or not, our car registered 100 degrees in the Target parking lot on Sunday and it got down into the 30's overnight!

Thanks for the encouragement, Anne!
