Garden Mystery

OK, all you gardeners out there--I have a question for you. Have you ever had a flowering plant that only produced seed heads with no petals? This purple coneflower produced regular, petaled flowers last year, but this year about three-quarters of the plant is producing flowers with no petals. The flowers that actually have petals are sort of deformed looking.
I've never had this happen before. Have you?

Weird! But they still look very pretty! I'd like a vase full of seed heads.
The weather patterns have been strange this year, and the lady at the nursery where I bought my flowers said everything is "growing differently" this year.
I have the same thing happening plant by plant this year. It seems to be traveling across the garden. You are the only other person I have come across that has this issue. I was told it might be a blight, but other than that I have received no other info. I hope they are ok!!
