Approach, My Soul, the Mercy Seat
Approach, my soul, the mercy seat
Where Jesus answers prayer;
There humbly fall before His feet,
For none can perish there.
Thy promise is my only plea,
With this I venture nigh;
Thou callest burdened souls to Thee,
And such, O Lord, am I!
Bowed down beneath a load of sin,
By Satan sorely pressed;
By wars without, and fears within,
I come to Thee for rest.
Be Thou my shield and hiding place,
That, sheltered near Thy side,
I may my fierce accusers face
And tell him Thou hast died.
O wondrous Love to bleed and die,
To bear the cross and shame,
That guilty sinners such as I,
Might plead Thy gracious name!

Great words, Kim! I really like this verse:
Be Thou my shield and hiding place,
That, sheltered near Thy side,
I may my fierce accusers face
And tell him Thou hast died.
My favorite lines are these:
By wars without, and fears within,
I come to Thee for rest.
Mmmm, those are nice words too! The whole hymn is pretty good.

"There [at the mercy seat] humbly fall before His feet, For none can perish there."
What a comfort this is, to know beyond any doubt that we have a certain refuge in Christ!
Precious hymn; peaceful lakeshore photo, triggering thoughts of so much to thank our Heavenly Father for.
What a great hymn. I was trying to narrow down a section that I liked the best. But I can't - I like it all.
Lovely picture too.
This is wonderful. There are so many treasures in these old hymns that we don't hear any more.
Kim, I don't think I know this one. I love the last verse.
Lovely picture!
