What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Perspectives

From the TV listing:

"Transported to a surreal landscape, a young girl kills the first woman she meets and then teams up with three complete strangers to kill again."

Would you be likely to sit down and watch a show like this? Me, either. Sounds like a gruesome sci-fi made-for-TV movie, doesn't it?

However, I think I can safely say that in all likelihood, 100% of my readers have not only watched this movie, but most would even say they love it.

You see, it's all in the perspectives.

When my computer crashed, it seemed a very bad thing to happen--inconvenient, expensive, and time consuming. All those things are true, but it hasn't been all bad. Having to re-build the computer (or at least pay someone who knows what he is doing to re-build it) and then re-install programs and hunt down documents and passwords and re-set preferences is may seem bad, but having the necessity opportunity to pick and choose and set things up in a more user friendly way is proving to be worth the effort. It all about how you choose to look at it. An expensive computer emergency or and opportunity to reclaim space and speed set up proper recovery and backup systems so that this never happens again. Not something I would ever have chosen, but something I, or at least my computer, needed.

That's the way it is in life, too. Sometimes the things that God brings into our lives seem painful, inconvenient, and not at all what we would choose for ourselves. But, with time and perspective, it's always just what we need, just when we need it.

Oh, and the movie?

It's all in the way you look at it. . .

Well, Kim, I was convinced that I never saw the movie as listed...but in fact, after scrolling down, I most certainly have!

You're absolutely right...it's all in the perspectives. I'm keeping that in mind as I trudge through Christmas with a copy of "Molecular Biology of the Cell" under one arm and "Biochemistry" under the other. (Right now, my perspective is that early January is a horrible time to take a comprehensive exam!).

Thanks for sharing your perspective!

XO,
Jill

Gotta admit that I've never seen the whole movie, just bits of it. It never appealed to me, so why bother?

You're right, though.Trusting in God's perspective and his sovereignty is the only way I can have the courage to 'do the next thing.'

Welcome back!

Liked the book much better. Welcome back.

I liked the book, too, Pete, but the movie is part of my childhood. We didn't watch much TV at our house, so the Wizard of Oz really made a big impression on me when I was a little girl.

An embarrassed confession: I never saw the movie. I haven't even read the book! *blush*

And I should do something about my computer, too...

Great post!

Eija!

Don't be embarrassed! It's just a movie! I confess that I really did think that the whole world had seen that movie because, at least in America, it seems to be a common experience for young and old alike. But now I have learned that a Canadian friend and you, my Finnish friend, haven't seen it. I guess my idea that everyone had seen it is just my perspective, too!!

I know it's true. Sigh.

The wicked witch terrified me when I was a kid! Great perspective. Merry Christmas!

I remember (as a little girl) looking forward to this movie every year when it came to show on T.V. It always aired on a Friday.
