My Old Singer Sewing Machine

Rebecca's post about her Singer Featherweight Sewing Machine made me curious to find out more about my old Singer Sewing Machine. I followed some links, emailed Singer, and in less than 10 minutes, I learned that my machine is Singer Model 99K, manufactured on August 1, 1922 in Clydebank, Scotland.

Singer has a searchable database. Just go to their website, click on Customer Service and then the Serial Number link.

Here are some pictures of my sewing machine.

This is a picture of the carrying case, made of oak.

As you can see, this machine doesn't have a foot pedal, it has a bar that you push with your knee.

It also has a cool Singer Sewlight with a pull chain that was apparently added at a later date.

What a beauty! My grandmother had one that she used with her foot. I wish my mother had received it when my grandmother died. My mother loved it.

I hope someone in the family got it!

My mom has my grandma's old sewing machine (from my Dad's mom) and I hope it goes to my sister someday.

(So does she!) Where did you get yours? I forget! But I sure remember the machine!

I got the small one in the case from a Singer dealer in Findlay when I first started quilting. I think I spent $20 for it.

Do you remember the old Eldridge sewing machine I had in the kitchen in Brunswick under the phone? I took some pictures of that one and will blog it up when I have time. That one I got from my friend, Kathy, on Washington Ave in Findlay. I think that was all of $10.

I don't remember the Eldridge, but I think my "new" Singer was your friend Kathy's, too, wasn't it? I have Grandma Glasener's old Singer-I can't tell whether it's a C or a G as the first letter, but it says patent pending 1910, so I think it was a C and therefore 1908 Wittenberge, (Prussia) Germany. If it's a G, it's 1913 Elizabethtown USA

Very cool! I've got two old Singers, one was my grandmother's the other a friend's grandmother's.

I think I'll go see if I can find them on the Singer site.

Thanks for the link to the singer site!! I have an old singer and have been wondering about it. Nice to know I can find out about it without taking a lot of time!! Thanks!

How cool is that? I love it. I'd use as part of my decorating, well because I don't sew.

Hi! I did a blog search on Singer Featherweights and found yours came up with mention of one. Your machine is beautiful! My mom has one similar, but I think hers is a 66 model. I sewed on it a little bit when I was young, but I didn't take to sewing (and actually learning) until a few years ago. Anyway - I'm new to blogging and just thought I'd see if there were any other seamstresses out there. :)

Hi April!

I'm glad you found me! I hope you'll have as much fun blogging as I have had!

Now, I'm off to visit your blog. . .
