What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Conquest to Victory

And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. (Romans 16:20)

This promise follows well upon that of yesterday. We are evidently to be conformed to our covenant Head, not only in His being bruised in His heel but in His conquest of the evil one. Even under our feet is the old dragon to be bruised. The Roman believers were grieved with strife in the church; but their God was "the God of peace" and gave them rest of soul. The archenemy tripped up the feet of the unwary and deceived the hearts of the simple; but he was to get the worst of it and to be trodden down by those whom he had troubled. This victory would not come to the people of God through their own skill or power; but God Himself would bruise Satan. Though it would be under their feet, yet the bruising would be of the Lord alone.

Let us bravely tread upon the tempter! Not only inferior spirits but the prince of darkness himself must go down before us. In unquestioning confidence in God let us look for speedy victory. "Shortly." Happy word! Shortly we shall set our foot on the old serpent! What a joy to crush evil! What dishonor to Satan to have his head bruised by human feet! Let us by faith in Jesus tread the tempter down.

Break'n out the Spurgeon for the New Year huh? :)

Well, I can think of no better way!

His words are always edifying.

May God bless you and your family this year Kim.

I have some interesting news for you. Well, that's if you kind of remember my whole story.

My wife and I went to our old church right down the street last Sunday for worship. If you remember, we had left the PCUSA. But I've changed allot in the past year. As you probably have noticed, I've broken away from the Highway crowd. At the end of the day, I found that the people we worshiped with at the PCA church were pretty much the same as the ones we worshiped at the PCUSA and that all and all we are all fallible and imperfect people who have our own baggage. True, the PCA has it's doctrine down way better then the PCUSA and the PCA most likely will not be tolerating homosexuality and or women pastors, but no church is perfect and my wife and I finally just admitted that we missed our many friends at our old church, fallible and all. I listened to the sermon preached by my old pastor with new ears. This time around I didn't pick it apart but rather was edified by it and moved. This is coming from a pastor who had just gotten a divorce, in a church with a woman pastor and half of it's members not even having a clue what "reformed" means. :) lol. There is also of course terrible adult Sunday school lessons, self centered people and a high level of charismatic/mysticism influence. But the people there, even though for allot of them, it's purely social, care for each other and are interested in growing in their faith.

So anyway, I just thought I'd share, I know your in the PCA and we share the same interests and we both love Tolkien and Martyn Lloyd Jones. :) It's an English thing I guess. :) Sure there are still things that will drive me crazy in our old church, but It's where God is calling us I believe and I've really come to the decision that Love is more important then right doctrine.

Y.B.I.C,

Dave.
