Giving Thanks in November
Today I am thankful for Trader Joe's Pure Liquid Castile Soap. I read online somewhere that it was a good home treatment for rosacea. I was tired of taking daily antibiotics and smearing my face twice a day with two expensive creams and still looking like I have a sunburn, so I thought I'd give it a go. It's all natural, inexpensive, not fancy, and not particularly good-smelling, but it works better than the three prescriptions I've been on for years.
From the label:
Body: Use directly on loofa, washcloth, or sponge for an invigorating shower or bath.
Bubble Bath/Baby Bath: Pour one capful in running water for a luxurious bath. It’s also a gentle, safe way to bathe your baby (note: as with any baby wash, be sure to keep it out of their eyes).
Fruit Wash: A couple of washes in water cleans pesticide residues off your fruits and vegetables.
Hand Soap: Gentle on your hands and tough on dirt.
General Use Cleaner: Its naturally powerful cleaning ability will get your floors, counters, bathrooms, and kitchen utensils spotlessly clean.
Travelers, Backpackers, Campers: The perfect all-in-One cleaner. One (biodegradable) soap does it all without fouling up the environment.
Believe it. This stuff removes soap scum and lime deposits so easily that it almost makes me wish I still had shower doors to clean! And I've discovered another really wonderfully wonderful use for it! I've started using it to clean my pen nibs. Cleaning pen nibs (especially if one uses acrylic inks as I do) is a nasty, time consuming, difficult and frustrating exercise. The nibs must be scrupulously cleaned immediately after each use and all ink must be removed completely or the nibs will be ruined. If I have to use more than one nib size for a project, now I can just remove it and soak it in a solution of a cup of water with squirt of Castile soap. At the end of the day, all I have to do is shake the jar vigorously for a couple of minutes and then rinse them well with hot running water and dry them overnight on paper towels.

It works for rosacea AND lime deposits on shower doors? Really? I have both,(are we twins? yet another similarity!) and if that's true, I'm gonna be really happy! You've made my day, Kim!
Rats. I don't think it can be ordered online, and we don't have one anywhere around here. If you know of an online source, I'd love to know it. Thanks.
Hi Rosemary,
If you can't find Trader Joe's, try Dr.Bronner's
I should tell you, too, that mild as it is, you'll need to use a good moisturizer. It dries the face.
Kim, I have the same problem, family trait it seems. I will try to find some Trader Joe's and try it out. Post a link if you have one. I use Noxzema and Colloidal Oatmeal soap, that seemed to be best for me and some in the family. Prescriptions do nothing. (The more stress the more red.) I also found that using bare minerals makeup has been a huge help. Started using that makeup this summer and I have seen a change. I use Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Moisture Cream during the cooler months on my face. Thanks for the tip about the nib cleaning, it can be a pain. A friend of mine bought me Tropical Blue Private Reserve Ink. Have you tried it? Love the color and the flow ... I'm THANKFUL for you and this post!
Hi Pam,
I, too, have had good luck with mineral make up. I'll try your Moisturizer. I'm not knocked out with the one I am using right now.
I've never even heard of that ink, but you can bet I will be googling it as soon as I finish here!
It's on my Trader Joe's list now! have a wonderful weekend...
Dr. Bronner's it is, and thanks. I hope it works as well.
