Giving Thanks in November
I'm thankful that I can take some things for granted.
Like my thumb.
Yesterday, I drove a big old splinter deep, deep, deep under the fingernail of my right thumb. Ouch! I thought it hurt last night when I did it, but it doesn't compare to how sore it is this morning.
I'm having trouble doing the simplest things like cracking eggs, dressing, and typing. I broke the yolks on Tom's eggs this morning because, apparently, one needs the full use of one's thumb to properly use a spatula. I probably won't be able to do any calligraphy for a few days.
I hope you won't think I am ungrateful when I tell you that, rather than confessing that I'm not nearly thankful enough for the little things, I am praising God that there are so many things I can simply take for granted.
It is our Sovereign God Who preserves our lives, sustains our health, protects us from harm, and allows us to take things for granted. It is He Who knows just how to get our attention and remind us of His goodness and constant care.
Let us be thankful for those things today.
Psalm 136
1 Oh, give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
For His mercy endures forever.
2 Oh, give thanks to the God of gods!
For His mercy endures forever.
3 Oh, give thanks to the Lord of lords!
For His mercy endures forever:

Ouch! I completely understand--the things we take for granted can cause us to stop in our tracks at times.
Double ouch! Hope you were able to get all the splinter out.
Just this morning I was thinking about how often I assume things that I shouldn't, but there are certain, wonderful things of God that I CAN assume, or depend upon because of His faithful promise. Nice of you to post a bit about that! I join you in your thankfulness!
Cringe! Ouch!! Hope it heals quickly.
Oh, that sounds painful. I'm sorry to hear about it.
But yes, nothing makes us more greatful for our unthinking good health than an interupption in it..
