QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Sunday Hymn:O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus

O the Deep, deep Love of Jesus

O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free;
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me,
Is the current of thy love;
Leading onward, leading homeward,
To thy glorious rest above.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Spread his praise from shore to shore;
How he loveth, ever loveth,
Changeth never, nevermore;
How he watches o'er his loved ones,
Died to call them all his own;
How for them he intercedeth,
Watcheth o'er them from the throne.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Love of ev'ry love the best:
'Tis an ocean vast of blessing,
'Tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
'Tis a heav'n of heav'ns to me;
And it lifts me up to glory,
For it lifts me up to thee.

Oh, this is one of my favorites. I love the minor key that it is written in...

You do know that's a Welsh hymn tune, right? The alternate name for it is "Ton-y-Botel," or "bottle tune." The explanation I read is that it was found floating in a bottle, but I suspect it's more likely that it was adapted from a drinking song, in the tradition of Luther. I've never seen these particular words to it, but they're lovely. I can send you a welsh version if you like.

Speaking of which... :)

I broke down and scanned the hymn "Hiraeth" for you, since I couldn't find it online. It's posted here.

Yes, I did know it was a Welsh tune! I am so delighted that you posted the hymn, Hiraeth. I'll be linking!

Thank you, Joel!
