Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt:  Antiques

I love antiques.  I love anything that has a story and a patina.  These books were given to me by my grandfather, who was a great collector of books.  The book on the left is leather bound and the one on the right is hardbound with hand marbled paper and a leather spine.  As a calligrapher, I greatly appreciate the beautiful example of the italic style of the late 1800's.  Remnants remain of the copperplate style of earlier generations.

They don't teach REAL penmanship in school anymore. Everything is done with computer. These are great!

Oh wonderful. My grandfather had the most amazing writing - very old school - I still have some of the birthday cards he gave me - treasured. Those books are to be cherished. Happy weekend.

What treasures! I love old books and that old style of writing.

Thanks for your comment on my "secondary issues" post. :) My photo hunt post was a couple below that one.

Congratulations on the Hidden Treasures award! I enjoyed the "Perspectives" post.

Books are just great when they're hardbound. It gives it more distinction and they last a long time...as witnessed in your photos.

I remembered buying old books from a book sale just so I can have an old book in my book case.

I have a few books from my grandfather as well. My favorite is a "medical book" from the 1880's--my how things have changed! Love it!

Yeah... like srp said, they don't teach real handwriting at school these days. And the standard letters are totally weird and UGLY.
I think you'd love my old Bibles...
