Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt: Antiques
Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 07:48AM
I love antiques. I love anything that has a story and a patina. These books were given to me by my grandfather, who was a great collector of books. The book on the left is leather bound and the one on the right is hardbound with hand marbled paper and a leather spine. As a calligrapher, I greatly appreciate the beautiful example of the italic style of the late 1800's. Remnants remain of the copperplate style of earlier generations.

Wow - now that is super cool. I love to see old handwriting, it's so fascinating!
They don't teach REAL penmanship in school anymore. Everything is done with computer. These are great!
I LOVE that! That's amazing!
wow...those are soooo cool. My handwriting is horrible and if any of it is still around many years from now, people will wonder how I ever graduated from high school...hehehe.
thanks for the visit today.
Oh wonderful. My grandfather had the most amazing writing - very old school - I still have some of the birthday cards he gave me - treasured. Those books are to be cherished. Happy weekend.
These are truly a priceless treasure.
Happy weekend!
Drooling here. I would so love to be able to look at those books! Have a wonderful rest of the weekend!
What treasures! I love old books and that old style of writing.
Thanks for your comment on my "secondary issues" post. :) My photo hunt post was a couple below that one.
Congratulations on the Hidden Treasures award! I enjoyed the "Perspectives" post.
Books are just great when they're hardbound. It gives it more distinction and they last a long time...as witnessed in your photos.
I remembered buying old books from a book sale just so I can have an old book in my book case.
How very cool! You are so lucky to have these treasures for your very own!
I have a few books from my grandfather as well. My favorite is a "medical book" from the 1880's--my how things have changed! Love it!
Wow, those are very cool old books! :) Just wonderful. :) I do calligraphy as well - it's such a fun and beautiful art form.
Thanks for stopping by and have a good day! :)
The writing in these books is incredible! I can see why you love these. :-)
I love that style of writing! That last picture is amazing!
Yeah... like srp said, they don't teach real handwriting at school these days. And the standard letters are totally weird and UGLY.
I think you'd love my old Bibles...
Great pictures. Some of the old married books look like that in KY. I do genealogy and have seen some wedding books like that.
Wow! Those are cool. Since I work for a Law School I find them doubly cool :-)
