QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Quote of the Week

(For) the very idea of sin in the Bible is of an offense against God, which disrupts a man's relationship with God.  Unless we see our shortcomings in the light of the law and holiness of God, we do not see them as sin at all.  For sin is not a social concept; it is a theological concept.

J. I. Packer, Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God, pg. 60

I'm mostly an anonymous reader of your blog. I enjoy it and borrow many good quotes from your sources. (confession is good for the soul). Just wanted to say I like your new blog heading. Blessings on your head!

Great quote, in fact I just read this! I am reading the same book. Next I am moving on to Murray's book -- Redemption Accomplished and Applied. Nice work on the header - you did this yourself didn't you? Catches your eye, I like the shape of the lettering. Have your read Packers book on Prayer? I would like to hear another's take on it -- he leans a little toward "contemplative" and I do not want to spend money on the book if it is. I always get blessed when I come to your blog.

A right understanding of who we are before a Holy God and how impossible that we could keep His holy law--this brings us to the end of ourselves. Hallelujah, that is where He grants us salvation, borne of the faith He has given us to receive His Holiness.

Love the new header, too!

HI LNB!

Thanks for the kind comments and for "coming out of lurk mode!" It's nice to know you're reading!

Hi Kim,

I'm glad you like the header. It's nice when another calligrapher likes your work!

Hi Pam,

I have the Packer book on prayer but I haven't done more than dip into it. I'll let you know what I think when I do finish reading it. Oh, I do hope that he isn't "going contemplative!" You won't be sorry with the Murray book. It is one of my favorites of all time and one I refer to frequently.

Thanks, Elle! I'm glad to be getting to know you!

Hi Kim. I like the new heading for Hiraeth. Great job!

So true that sin is not a social concept, although I never thought of it so clearly as after reading this quote.

We never truly see ourselves--and our sin--until we see ourselves in the light of God's holiness.

Wonderful quote!

Your blog design is beautiful!
