What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Quote of the Week

 My friend, Leslie, from Lux Venit left this quote in the comments section of a recent post:  Love's Determinate Purpose.  How deep the Father's love for us. . .

"...And so we must say that this love of the Father was at no point more intensely in exercise than when the Son was actively drinking the cup of unrelieved damnation, than when he was enduring as substitute the full toll of the Father's wrath...What love for men that the Father should execute upon his own Son the full toll of holy wrath, so that we should never taste it!" (from Murray, Collected Writings, as quoted in Reymond, A New Systematic Theology of the Christian Faith, pg. 642)

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us

How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss –
The Father turns His face away,
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders;
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought me life –
I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom;
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer;
But this I know with all my heart –
His wounds have paid my ransom.

Those words really struck me this morning in church. Incredible, isn't it?!

Yes, it is incredible, but true.

Dorothy, I posted that before church so I had already been thinking of it before we sang it in church this morning. It was very powerful, wasn't it?

(I'm delighted to see you posting!)
