Recipe: Cherry Cheesecake Ring

Elaine found a great sale on Pillsbury Crescent Rolls and is asking for our favorite recipes.  Here's one I made Wednesday night for prayer group.

Cherry Cheesecake Ring
1 pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/3 c. powdered sugar
1 egg, separated
1 t. vanilla or almond extract
2 pkgs. Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
1 can cherry pie filling
Preheat oven to 350.  Combine cream cheese, powdered sugar, egg yolk, and almond extract and beat with electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
Unroll crescent rolls, reserving 4 for decoration.  Separate remaining dough triangles and arrange on a round pizza pan that has been covered with parchment (I spray the pan with baking spray and lay the parchment on top so that it stays put while I'm fooling around with the crescent rolls).  Arrange the triangles in a circle, placing points in the center.  With fingers, press the seams together until the whole pizza pan is covered in dough.  With a biscuit cutter, cut out a circle of dough from the center of the pan, leaving a hole.
Spread the cream cheese mixture over the dough almost up to the edge of the pan and then top with pie filling.
Here comes the fun part.  Sprinkle your countertop with powdered sugar and then, leaving the remaining crescent rolls in a rectangle, press the seams together, then sprinkle with more powdered sugar and, using your rolling pin, roll them out to about 6 or 7 inches.  Powder the rectangle with sugar again and then cut lengthwise into 12 strips.  Tuck the end of a strip under the outside edge of the dough and then twist and place like a spoke with the other end in the center hole.  Continue in this way until all 12 strips are placed.  Cut the ends off the strips in the center hole with biscuit cutter.  Brush crust with egg white that has been mixed with a little tiny bit of water.  Bake at 350 for 25 to 30 minutes.
Drizzle the dessert with royal icing (1/2 c. powdered sugar and 1-2 t. milk) and top with toasted, slivered almonds.

This dessert has been taste tested and approved by Ivy.

I think I have the "fun part" in my mind - I may need you to post a photo next time you make it, but atleast I can get all the ingredients which is a good start :-)

Thanks for sharing.
