What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Sometimes You Just Have to

Today's self-talk :

Sometimes you just have to do things you've been dreading.
You can't keep putting stuff off forever.
It's the job that's never started that never gets done.
Buck up and quit complaining.
The longer you wait, the worse it will be.
It's not going to take care of itself!
Just do it!
You'll feel better once you're done!
Your mother would be proud of you!
It didn't get this way by itself and it's not going to get better by itself.

I could go on and on.  It gets worse:

What if there was a great big storm and it blew the catalpa tree into the house and crashed into the roof?  How would you feel when the police and the firemen see that?

What if we never DO find the Christmas ornaments?
What would the neighbors think?
What if you died and Tom sold the house; who would know what to do with all that junk?

And there you have it.  After threatening to do it for MONTHS, I am finally cleaning my attic.  Well, technically, I WAS cleaning it.  Now I'm stalling and avoiding it by blogging about it.

As a self-proclaimed--and always reforming--procrastinator, I can say that blogging is always a 'respectable' and socially acceptable tactic! I feel your pain! :-)

I don't need the pep talk- give me your excuses! Pep talks are always going on here- they don't pep me anymore- they weary me! but you go, girl! Whip that attic into shape!

I am one of the worst procrastinators, so I know all about how easy it is to avoid doing things I don't want to do.
I have been trying to sort through accumulated "stuff" this week and I do feel better once I feel like I have accomplished something and gotten rid of papers and things that have been piling up and forgotten, but just getting started is the hard part. It just seems so overwhelming because I have let this stuff accumulate for too long and there is so much of it......I don't know why I do that to myself instead of just dealing with it as it comes and not allowing it to accumulate. It is a hard habit for me to break.
