What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Miscellaneous Chatting

Oh, I had such fun yesterday afternoon!  I got to babysit Elliott for a few hours and we had the most wonderful time together!

He is at that delightful roly-poly stage--almost ready to crawl.  He still manages to get where he wants to go by a combination of rolling over, half sitting up, reaching and stretching.  He likes to be read to now, but he'd prefer to turn the pages himself, thank you very much.

I've always loved this stage.  The intensity of concentration that locomotion requires!  That patient commitment to try, try, try and try again--whether that means recapturing a little car that got away from him or studying my face to see how I am making that 'buh' sound, lips moving a little as he concentrates.

He is interested in everything, engaged in everything and for the most part he is happy and contented.  He has a fascination for gadgets--cell phones, iPods, remote controls.  But he's equally fascinated with the fringe on the couch pillow.

I forgot to take my camera, but I did get some good snaps on my cell phone.  I'll have to have Jake help me figure out how to get the pictures off my camera and on to the computer so I can share them with you.

Jake's arm is finally starting to improve.  Thanks for all your prayers!  It's still painful and swollen, but he can move his arm more freely now and the redness is starting to fade a little.

I had a big scare yesterday.  When I got home from playing with Elliott, Ivy greeted me at the back door, but no Eve.  She didn't wake up so I took Ivy out to go potty and did a little picking up and putting away.  I called Eve to go outside, but she didn't wake up.  I went over to where she was asleep on her pillow and she didn't move--I couldn't even see her breathing.  I honestly feared she had died in her sleep.  I was afraid to touch her because I didn't want to find out.  I called her name several times and then turned on the lamp so I could see whether she was breathing or not.  I'm pretty sure I wasn't.  As soon as I clicked on the lamp, she opened her eyes and looked up at me, the tip of her tail wagging in greeting.  I told her she needed to go out and go potty and she got up and stretched and obediently ambled to the door.  A false alarm, but the chill I felt wasn't only due to the cold, snowy day.

Tomorrow Dorothy and Carol and I pick up our study of Hebrews after a holiday break.  I am really looking forward to our time spent together in the Word.  I've missed it.

I can tell spring is coming.  Really!  I can!  It's all about the path of the sunshine as it moves through the house on sunny days.  The dogs are laying in different spots as the sun streams through the windows into new places.  I should probably associate these sunny spots with winter, but to me they are harbingers of spring, no matter how distant.

I have no 'work for hire' right now, so I am spending a lot of time practicing my copperplate.  I try to work a little every day, even if it's only 15 minutes at a time.  I finally feel comfortable saying I can 'do' copperplate; I have the basics down and it's feeling familiar.  Now I am finessing my hand and discovering my own style.  Not sure I have one yet, but every person's hand is different and mine will develop with time and use.

I've been listening to talk radio--something I haven't done in many years.  I blame Blagojevitch.  It's like a big soap opera, isn't it?  Just when you think you've heard it all, something more comes out.  Have you been following the hijinks in Illinois politics?  If so, what do you think about all the wrangling and posturing that's going on with regard to the President-elect's Senate seat?

There.  I talked about politics on my blog.  I guess I AM feeling chatty this morning!

I am so very, very thankful that Jake's arm is finally improving! I was concerned.

I'm also thankful that Eve was just deeply asleep!

So happy to hear about Jake's arm. I'd like to really sit and chat with you one day, Kim! Thanks for a little foretaste of that here- I love your harbingers of spring! I am hopelessly caught in winter today- it's nie tht you see a promise in Illinois because Ohio is frozen and slippery and snowy!

Your optimism is showing---seeing Spring in the middle of Winter! Like Heidi, I'm still caught in the cold of Winter.

So glad Jake's arm is better! And that Eve was merely in a very lazy sleep.

Elliott, Elliott, the joy of his grandma's heart. I'm always happy to hear Elliott tales, and see pictures of his sweet little face.

Oh, I've missed the whole thing about Jake's hand - but good that it's getting better.
About Eve - I know that horrible feeling about not wanting to know. I've had it with both dogs and kids! Old dogs do sleep heavy sleep and with their hearing gone bad too... Ah, well, those sweet old friends!
