QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Sunday Hymn: Let us with a Gladsome Mind

From Psalm 136

LET US WITH A GLADSOME MIND

Let us with a gladsome mind,
Praise the Lord, for he is kind.

For his mercies aye endure,
Ever faithful, ever sure.

Let us blaze his name abroad,
For of gods he is the God.

He with all-commanding might
Filled the new-made world with light.

All things living he doth feed;
His full hand supplies their need.

He his chosen race did bless
In the wasteful wilderness.

He hath with a piteous eye
Looked upon our misery.

Let us therefore warble forth
His high majesty and worth.

Thanks for posting John Milton's "Let Us with a Gladsome Mind." As a hymnologist I chuckle sometimes when folks talk about an "old hymn," and they speak of one that was written 20 or 30 years ago. (I guess it's a sign of our times, that things get old so quickly and are replaced with something else!) But John Milton died 335 years ago today, so his hymn is more than 3 centuries old.

If you enjoy the history of our hymns and hymn writers, I invite you to check out my daily blog on the subject, Wordwise Hymns. God bless.
