What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

[t]he Spirit of God shows to us hidden things, the knowledge of which cannot reach our senses: Promised to us is eternal life, but it is promised to the dead; we are assured of a happy resurrection, but we are as yet involved in corruption; we are pronounced just, as yet sin dwells in us; we hear that we are happy, but we are as yet in the midst of many miseries; an abundance of all good things is promised to us, but still we often hunger and thirst; God proclaims that he will come quickly, but he seems deaf when we cry to him. What would become of us were we not supported by hope, and did not our minds emerge out of the midst of darkness above the world through the light of God’s word and of his Spirit? Faith, then, is rightly said to be the subsistence or substance of things which are as yet the objects of hope and the evidence of things not seen.John Calvin, Calvin's Commentaries, Hebrews 11

Eve

Had another scare with Eve this morning.  Just like every morning, I got up, put the coffee on, filled Eve's dishes with food and fresh water, tossed a thyroid pill in her food dish, and went out to the office to let her out of her crate.  She was still sleeping soundly and it took a little poking and shouting to get her to wake up.  She came slowly ambling out of her crate, walked into the desk, turned around and tried to get back in the crate without opening the door with her nose.  I had to guide her out of the office and call her to the kitchen.

She looked at her food, turned around and went back to her crate.  I guided her back to the kitchen and coaxed her to eat and then helped her find her way to the front door to go outside and go potty.

She was still disoriented when she came back in so I put her back in her crate to sleep.  Sometimes the quiet familiarity of the crate is a mercy.

Ivy came bounding out of her crate, as usual, ran straight to the door to do her business, came storming back into the house as always, and ate her bowl of food with gusto.  Ivy does everything with energy and aplomb.  Then she looked for Eve.  She's confused because Eve isn't on her pillow.

Such is life with an old dog.  Some days are good and she plays like a puppy.  Sometimes she is confused and disoriented.

Maybe she'll be sharper when she gets up.

Poor sweet puppy! It is so tough to watch them go through this. I have a kitty that is 15 and is in renal failure. We don't really know how long she will be with us. She's good now, but.... By the way, the pic of Eve yesterday was beautiful. I love those eyes! Thanks for the prayers for my mom. She is doing well.

Glad to hear your mother is doing well!

I offer you some words of comfort from the hymn "Abide with me" - "Change and decay in all around I see, O Thou , who changes not, Abide with me." This line from this old hymn is the background music to much of my life. It is hard to watch those we love go down the road of change and decay. :)

Oh, Kim! That is heartbreaking to watch a dear friend get slower and slower. At least she's eating and pooping. That's an encouraging sign.

That's so hard to see...poor dog!

I sure hope she was sharper when she got up again. You know that I know those ups and downs of life with and old dog...and the ups and downs it causes in corresponding degrees in us.

Poor Eve, and the rest of you too. This can't be easy to watch.
