What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

My List of Favorite Hymns

Reader Comments (4)

I sang the first verse of each going down the list. Good picks, Kim! I mailed your cookie today- hope it gets there in one piece!

Great project Sherry! And being a hymn historian I have done this with many groups over the years. It's interesting to see what stays on the list, and what is dropped or added. A poll was taken (not by me) of 10,000 people in the States in 1990, ranging in age from 5 to 96, and coming from 32 different denominations (Quite a cross section!) Here are the results: !) Amazing Grace; 2) How Great Thou Art; 3) In the Garden; 4) The Old Rugged Cross; 5) What a Friend We Have in Jesus; 6) A Mighty Fortress Is Our God; 7) Blessed Assurance; 8) He Lives! 9) Victory in Jesus; 10) Holy, Holy, Holy. I look forward to hearing the results of your own survey. I write a weekly newspaper column on our traditional hymns and gospel songs (have done over 600 of them), and I have so many "favourites" [Hey! That's how we spell it in Canada!] that it would be hard to list only 10. Two that are not on the above list but are personal favourites are: It Is Well With My Soul, and Jesus Loves Even Me ("I am so glad that our Father in heaven...").
