Do we really want a Lady Justice who Peeks?

"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life" Supreme Court Nominee Judge Sonia Sotomayor.
If you switched her words just a little: "I would hope that a wise white man with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman who hasn't lived that life," the whole country would be howling--Conservatives included. And rightly so.Lady Justice is shown to be holding the balanced scales with a blindfold. Equal Justice under the law. The more I see of this administration, the more I am reminded of Animal Farm:
"All animals are equal. Some animals are more equal than others."
"No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be?"

Just in case you haven't read this for a while:
The Supreme Court Oath of Office:
"I, [NAME], do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me as [TITLE] under the Constitution and laws of the United States. So help me God."(italics added)

Good post, Kim! FYI - I am recommending that our Ladies' Book Club read "Animal Farm" for this next year. (Of course, since I'm the one choosing the books, my "recommendation" means that we will read it!)
I heard the oath the other day, and I was shocked that this woman would even be seriously considered, given her clear bias.
And I've never read Animal Farm, but I have read 1984, which makes me think of our current administration seems to be headed. Animal Farm will be on my list...

Your Animal Farm quotes were so completely appropriate for this situation Kim. What a sad state of affairs we are in!
