What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Christmas is officially over

waffles 06.jpgToday Christmas is officially over at our house.  John and Beth were in Ohio visiting with her folks over Christmas, so they came over to open presents this morning.  I fixed breakfast--waffles, bacon, juice and coffee.

I love fixing waffles with my waffle maker.  It's full of happy memories.  My mother in law gave it to me years ago.  One of her friends had died and she went to the sale.  She thought it would be nice if I had Katie's waffle iron, since I didn't have one.  It is exactly like hers, so that makes it even more special to me.  It's probably older than I am so everytime I take it out of the box and plug it in I sort of hold my breath, wondering if it's still going to heat up.  It worked beautifully this morning.

Whenever I make waffles I usually make three or four times as many as we will need and then freeze them for my waffle-loving boys.  I probably have 6 dozen or more safely tucked away in the chest freezer. It's such a satisfying feeling to have the freezer full of homemade goodies and time savers, isn't it?

I love to stash things away in the freezer too! Yes, it's a very comforting thought!
Glad you had a nice breakfast with your son and his wife.

I agree that it's comforting to have a freezer full of homemade goodies. I froze a batch of chili (just like my mom makes) only last week. And all week I've been enjoying black raspberries from our small patch, picked this summer...

Your waffle iron story reminded me of my breadmaker. A friend picked it up for me at the yard sale of a daughter who recently lost her mother. She was selling some old things from the house and the bread machine happened to be among them. I always wonder what kinds of breads that woman may have baked when I mix the ingredients for a loaf.

This is a nice look for your blog, Kim. XO

Hi, Kim! I like your new look, and I've updated my link to you. I, too, have an OLD waffle iron... there is just something about the old ones that do not quite compare with the new. They heat better, they cook better, they make bigger waffles... Waffles are a family tradition on my hubby's side, too. Waffles with real whipped cream and strawberries.
