What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

A Letter a Week:  R

It was hard to think of something for the letter R. Everything I could think of was beyond my artistic ability.

I was reading a new book about the history of letters and it clicked; our alphabet is fashioned on the Roman alphabet. . .one thing led to another and so R is for Roman Numerals.

Here's a quick review in case it's been a while since you've worked with Roman numerals:

I 1 unus

V 5 quinque

X 10 decem

L 50 quinquaginta

C 100 centum

D 500 quingenti

M 1000 mille

Good call for our R-day! I used to teach Roman numerals to my fourth graders and really thought it lots of fun.

I think this is a perfect post for you and your talent. Roman numerals...I'll bet no one else posts this word.

Perfect. L and D are the ones I always mix up.

When i was thinking about "R" post, i thought of "Religion" and i thought of you, too. But a negative comment i received to my "My world" post made me change my mind and make a post for something else. I like your post and i really enjoy your blog. It doesn't matter that we are from different religions. Love and faith go well with any religion.

What a great choice for the letter R.
And now you have got me interested in doing more RESEARCH on Roman numerals.
Thank you.

I like the way you're doing a series. What happens when you get to Z?

Lovely as usual! I remember learning roman numerals in fifth grade (1930). I notice that they are also an entry of last resort on crossword puzzles where no word will fit. Thank you for the little refresher course!
