Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Giving Thanks in November

Recently, I began working my way through James Montgomery Boice's commentary on Romans; a little 'light' reading in the morning and again before bed at night. As I studied, I began to think to myself that I ought to try to memorize some passages from Romans.

Then, providentially, I was delighted to discover that along with the ESV Reformation Study Bible I had ordered, I was sent a complimentary CD of Max McLean reading the book of Romans!  I loaded it onto my iPod and I've listened to it while walking the dogs in the morning and while sorting laundry; while cleaning and while working at my drawing board.

It's been a wonderful way to renew my mind and I'm so grateful for that unexpected blessing!

I have the whole bible on ESV by Max McLean. Hubby bought it for me for Christmas a few years ago. It's great, isn't it? I see the Romans volume by Boice quite regularly when I visit my favourite Christian bookstore. I've been tempted on occasion.

How are you enjoying your ESV Study Bible? I was also tempted with that one recently, too!

I'm really enjoying the Boice commentary. I'm still in the first volume. I love the way Boice writes--it's as if he's sitting in the next chair, just talking to you, which makes it a great commentary for individual study.

I haven't used my new Bible much yet. So far, I'm just carrying it to church on Sunday mornings until I can break it in a little and get used to it. I've been using the same Bible (same notes and everything but titled the Geveva Study Bible) in the NKJ since '00 so it's hard to give up eight years of my penciled in notes, but since so many preachers are using the ESV now, I thought I better make the switch to ESV.

WORLD magazine recently had a feature article on Max McLean. Did you see it? I'd love to hear his voice or see any of his performances.
