What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Giving Thanks

I'm thankful for more bags full of leaves, waiting at the curb to be picked up and hauled away.  I'm thankful for Sam and Jake's help in getting all those bags filled this afternoon.  I'm grateful that even with my arrhythmia issues, I can still do long days of physical work.  I'm thankful for the outside porch lights and the warm, balmy November evening that will allow us to do yet another section of our yard in the dark this evening after supper.

Tonight, after the driveway is swept clean of leaves and the number of leaf bags standing sentry has increased, we will again sit out on the patio under the autumn skies and talk and laugh and enjoy the unseasonable warmth of the dark night and ignore the election results for a little while longer.

All day long today, I remembered another uncertain election day--the day that our son Jake was born.  We were uncertain whether he would live through that first day; uncertain what the future held for him.  Everything we were hearing was devastating.  There was very little hope.  Twenty-four years later, Jake is still with us and thanks to his pacemaker/defibrillator, he is doing remarkably well.  We'll be celebrating his birthday on Thursday and rejoicing yet again in God's loving-kindness.

Even though this is election day and the outcome is uncertain, I am happy.  I live in a free country.  I voted today.  I do not "grieve as those who have no hope."  I have great hope for the future, for my hope is not place in earthly leaders but in the One who knows our days, the One who has overcome the world.

After another day of hard work and remembered blessings, I will lay my head on the pillow tonight without fear.

What a beautiful, touching post about giving thanks Kim. Thank you for your reminder to "have no fear." It's easy to give in to that feeling, but He is always in control. That should take all fear away for us!

I agree with Angie; what a beautiful and encouraging post. I can just smell the leaves and feel the cool air.

We are not worried about the election either. We want our children to know that we trust in God, not in government.
