Giving Thanks in November
I suffer from insomnia. Sometimes it's worse than other times; right now is one of those "worse times."
I slept fitfully last night and have been wide awake since just after 3 and up since around 5. Again.
Since it is God's will for me to give thanks in all things, I've been sitting here thinking of how I can find a way to be thankful for not sleeping.
Here goes:
In the quiet darkness when I should be sleeping, I can spend my time praying for things that otherwise might not come to mind in the hustle and bustle of daylight hours.
I have time to review my days and think ahead.
I can enjoy my coffee in the dark.
I can plan a special Saturday breakfast for Tom.
I can do a few quiet chores, like sorting laundry and dusting.
I can catch up on some blog reading.
I can linger over my daily Bible reading (2 Thessalonians 1 today; preparation for times such as these.)
I can cultivate a thankful heart instead of complaining.

Kim- you have spoken my heart, today! I,too, am up and wondering why and how to best use this time when all are sleeping but me. Your thankfulness inspires my own. Thank you.
I very rarely have trouble sleeping, but I hate it when I do! I'm glad you can be us it well and be thankful for it.
Soooo familiar! I'm often up at 3 or 3:30 a.m. too, and have enjoyed making use of the time in all the ways you mention. Except dusting---I can't bring myself to dust at that hour!
Insomnia is truly a pain. I've only suffered from it periodically - like this autumn when work was a bit too much. Still, it's been enough so that I know what a difficult companion it is. However, you've managed to bring out the best of it :)
Sweet dreams anyway!
I am so glad that I do not suffer from insomnia. It's amazing to read your thankful thoughts even in the midst of something that must be so frustrating for you. You really do have a thankful heart!

When I suffer from insomnia, I lie there and ask God to place the names of those I'm to pray for in that time. He truly does redeem the sleeplessness. You're right. There is reason in all things for thankfulness.
