Here we go again!
I'm so tired of snow. . .
A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING
TO 6 PM CST WEDNESDAY.
SLEET AND HEAVY SNOW IS EXPECTED TUESDAY EVENING THROUGH
WEDNESDAY EVENING. THE HEAVIEST SNOW...UP TO 8 TO 12 INCHES...
WILL FALL ALONG AND NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE 88 CORRIDOR OR NORTH
OF A LINE FROM EVANSTON TO AURORA TO MENDOTA...AND INCLUDING THE
NORTHERN SUBURBS OF CHICAGO AND THE GREATER ROCKFORD METROPOLITAN
AREA. THE PRECIPITATION WILL START OUT AS A MIX OF SLEET AND SNOW
OR RAIN AND SNOW AND THEN QUICKLY CHANGE OVER TO ALL SNOW. THIS
IS A VERY DYNAMIC SITUATION WITH SNOW FALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO
2 INCHES PER HOUR POSSIBLE. WINDS WILL ALSO INCREASE TO 20 TO
30 MPH...SO BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW IS ALSO LIKELY.
SOME UNCERTAINTY REMAINS REGARDING THE TIMING OF PRECIPITATION
CHANGING FROM A WINTERY MIX TO ALL SNOW...BUT WHEN THE CHANGEOVER
OCCURS...THE PRECIPITATION WILL REMAIN ALL SNOW FOR THE REMAINDER
OF THE EVENT.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO
POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.
Wednesday Morning
It's been "precipitating" all afternoon yesterday until now, but the temperatures were such that we didn't get much accumulation--woke this morning to about two inches of icy, wet snow. The forecast is calling for 12-14 inches of snow accumulation today once it turns to all snow.
THE MAIN FORCING ASSOCIATED WITH THE STORM SYSTEM IS SHAPING UP
TO BE A LITTLE STRONGER THAN PREVIOUSLY ANTICIPATED. THEREFORE...
THE TOTAL SNOWFALL FORECAST HAS BEEN INCREASED TO 12 TO 14 INCHES
FROM THE ROCKFORD AREA EASTWARD ALONG THE WISCONSIN LINE.
IN ADDITION TO THE HEAVY SNOW...NORTHEAST WINDS WILL INCREASE ON
WEDNESDAY...GUSTING TO 30 MPH AT TIMES...CAUSING PERIODS OF BLOWING
AND DRIFTING SNOW.
SINCE TEMPERATURES WILL REMAIN AT OR JUST BELOW THE FREEZING MARK
FOR THE DURATION OF THE SNOWFALL...THE SNOW WILL LIKELY BE WET AND
HEAVY...REQUIRING EXTRA EXERTION WHEN SHOVELING.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW...
SLEET...AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO
POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.
