What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

She's Not Afraid of Commitment

I am definitely NOT afraid of commitment.  Case in point; my car.

I drive a '94 Camry.  And I love her.  Sure, she's getting old, but then--so am I!

She's starting to have a few things go wrong and seems to be making fairly regular visits to the shop, like today.

Is it time to retire the old girl?  Oh, I hope not.  My goal has been to drive her until she flips over to 200,000 miles.  Last time I blogged about her in January '07, she had 170,177.

Today she has just 173, 691.  With the way I put miles on a car, I'm not sure I'll LIVE long enough to flip her over!  But I can tell you one thing:  I may not be afraid of commitment, but I am afraid of breaking down somewhere alone--at night.

Maybe it is time.

We had a 95 camry and I was so sad when Karl was rear-ended and we had to get an 03 camry. it's so weird how we attach ourselves to our vehicles.

Andrew is now driving my old (1991) Camry station wagon. It has about 350,000 kilometers on it. That's 220,000 miles. It has a few issues, but it just keeps on going. Thankfully, he can do most of his own repairs and the parts are cheap. We bought it for acouple of thousand dollars back in 2001 to replace my 1991 Camry that was totaled when a drunk lady ran a red light smack dab into it's front passenger side. Last summer, Andre tried to sell it for $1500 and started a bidding war among potential buyers so he decided to keep it and he's so glad he did because it's just so reliable.

Yikes. Why don't I learn to preview my comments so I can fix my typos?

I have the same relationship with my 98 Honda Civic - it's got a little over 162000 miles on it, but IMO, it's just getting good and broken in! :)

My car is older than yours. I have a 93 Geo Prizm and Tony has a 95 Prizm. I think they may rust themselves to death before the engines die. Mine looks pretty good, because I bought it from someone who never drove it in the winter, but Tony's car is not looking too good anymore. But they have been great cars, just a little too small for someone with legs as long as mine......but great on gas mileage.
