What I Believe
QUOTE OF THE WEEK

Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Quote of the Week:  Heidegger

Every motion of the hand in every one of its works carries itself through the element of thinking, every bearing of the hand bears itself in that element. All the work of the hand is rooted in thinking.  Martin Heidegger
I read this quote in a book about the history of letters and found it to be quite thought provoking.  This maxim could apply to anything that is done with the hands.  Cooking, sewing, giving a child a bath, washing the car.

I'm fairly certain that Heidegger, the philosopher, was not contemplating the hand/thinking connection in quite the same way as I did.  For every man, however, the work of the hands is rooted in thinking.  As Christians, our thinking must be rooted not only in the work of our hands, but in the Word of God.  Let us ask the Lord to establish the work of our hands for His glory.

Psalm 90

16 Let Your work appear to Your servants,
         And Your glory to their children.
 17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us,
         And establish the work of our hands for us;
         Yes, establish the work of our hands.

Amen.

And establish the work of our hands for us;
Yes, establish the work of our hands.

Amen! This text from the Bible was used at our wedding service! And later at my husband's funeral.
