A Letter a Week: 'H'
This was a joint effort. Once I decided on hats, I wanted to do Hollywood hats. But there was just one problem. I can't draw. No, really. If it isn't super simple, I can't do it. So, I enlisted the help of my son, Sam, the artist/cartoonist to teach me how to draw the hats I wanted to make.
Now that I've drawn the hats, can you figure out to whom they belong? A free Bookworm Bookmark to the first person to correctly identify all four Hollywood characters. If you play along, be sure to fill out the email portion of the comments box so I can get in touch with you if you win!
For more ABC Wednesday click on over to ABC Mr. Linky Blog.
Or, if you prefer, you can also check out the ABC weekly no comment site and browse all in one place.
You can see the rest of my Alphabet by clicking on the 'A' in the sidebar or the "A Letter a Week" category at the bottom of this post.
Thanks for all your wonderful guesses! Three of the four hats have been correctly identified so far! (not necessarily all by the same person)
I'm not going to give any hints (yet) but I WILL tell you that the one in the upper left corner is the tough one. I confess it was also the hardest to draw, so if no one guesses it, I will throw it out as a bad job and the bookmark will go to the first person to get the other three correct.
If no one has guessed all four by Monday morning, I will give you a hint. At 6 am next Tuesday, the contest will close and I will notify the winner.
OK. Here's your clue to the clearly poorly drawn and obviously confusing hat in the upper left corner.
I confess to you that this hat appears in a previous post on this blog. I confess that I love the character who sports it and all the rest of his effects, too. I also confess it shouldn't be too hard to find this hat with a simple site search.

Hi Marie! Welcome! I'm glad you visited Hiraeth today! If I'd known earlier that you were proficient in hieroglyphics, I may have chosen hieroglyphics for my 'H' (after having picked your brain first, of course!
Sorry Kim, typing error made on first post.
Trilby hat should read...Indiana Jones
Well, my take on the hats was entirely different from Marie's- but here goes-
1. Shirley Temple
2. Lionel Barrymore
3.Humphrey Bogart
4.Charlie Chaplin
I like your "h" but then not only do I have an interest in "aitch"'s - I like all of your letters!
Thanks for the quiz- it was fun even if I don't win!
Love the H the hats and the guesses...
I love your creativity! Excellent penmanship and artwork.
I love the hats but you didn't have to look for an H-word! You have it in your name: H-IRAETH!!!:)
I never once thought of that! Now I want to do another H just for myself using Hiraeth! Thanks for the idea!
It's a joint success!
Interesting is the letter H. I used to know about H but like many other things, I have long since forgotten them.
I only have one "H" for my post today. I hope you like it. I put it on Canon Pixels
Okay, from bottom left is Charlie Chaplin, Humphrey Bogart, Fred Astaire, and Shirley Temple. This was fun even though I have no idea if I'm right on all of them. :D
By golly I think Leslie got it right so I'm not going to guess. Great contest and fun Hollywood Hats.
Top left-- Shirley Temple, Top right-- W.C. Fields, Bottom right-- Humphrey Bogart, Bottom left--Stan Laurel
This was such fun. What a wonderful prize. You are very talented.
Bear((( )))
Very smart blog.
Fine idea a nd gorgeous calligraphy.
What a wonderful "H" post. Well, i think the hats are: a: Charlie Chaplin, b: Humphrey Bogard in "Casablanca" , c: Rex Harrison in "My fair lady", d: Audrey Hepburn in "Funny face". Oh, i love old movies. Thank you.
A very nice H...
Donald Duck, Lionel Barymore, Charlie Chaplin, and Humphrey Bogart...
Kim- I dreamed about Top Hat with Fred Astaire last night so I'm changing Lionel to Fred. I can't believe I dreamed about this! Maybe I should take a break from blogging!
What a great idea!
Let's see:
Stan laurel
Humphrey Bogart
Fred Astaire
and - um - Shirley temple is the only possibility I can come up with.
i'm stumped completely, not being knowledgeable in the cinematic arts!
An original and fun choice for "H" and it even comes with a contest and a prize! I couldn't begin to make an intelligent guess, except for that bowler, which looks like Stan Laurel to me.
Also, I love your new header....!
You're very talented! I'm impressed - but I'm not good at movie actor names - I'm hopeless. I know faces but that's it.
Your son is very nice for helping you draw these, you both did a wonderful job. I have no clue who the hats belong to :)
