Giving Thanks in November
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 07:36AM
The first thing that came to mind when I began to think about what I'm thankful for this morning is a small thing. Jake got a haircut yesterday. That made his mother happy! A simple thing, a small thing. Doesn't seem like a big deal.
The truth is, though, that as much as I don't like the long hair--as much as I bugged him to get it cut--as irritated as I became as time marched on and he didn't get it cut--I'm thankful that momentary irritations have never really become more than that.
Hair is vitally personal to children. They weep vigorously when it is cut for the first time; no matter how it grows, bushy, straight, or curly, they feel they are being shorn of part of their personality. --Charles Chaplin

I saw Jake at Sam's Club this morning and that always brightens up my shopping trip. He's invariably got a ready smile and a pleasant greeting! I'm glad he can come to prayer meeting tonight.
I'm like you and think boys and men should have short hair. I have a grown son who bridled every time the subject of a haircut came up. At that point in time, I was growing my hair for Locks of Love. (As an aside, the last couple of inches were a killer!) The day I want to get my hair cut, I asked if he'd like to donate his hair, too. Sure! Somebody with alopecia benefitted...so he made two people very happy by that one act. :-)
This reminds me to ask Husband to cut the boys' hair tonight. We're getting shaggy over here.
Very familiar with the shaggy hair thing, but for the most part it doesn't bother me. Except in the kitchen when we're preparing meals for guests. Then I pull the tidy hair and hat rule.
I second the shaggy comment.
Oh, I know Brian's hair is vitally personal to him. He hasn't had it cut since 1987 (except for a trim now and then). He thinks he'll look like he's 11 years old with a regular, short haircut, since that's the last time his hair was short. He's probably right.
We haven't cut Victor's hair yet...
XO
I think hair is a personal choice- length, color and style. But that is because my mother hated my hair and took me to beauty salons to get it fixed all the time when I was a young teen. I didn't cut my son's hair until they were 2 years old. And my oldest grew his shoulder length until he went to Moody Bible Institute and had to get it cut. But I would be very thankful if I had wanted him to cut it and he did it to please me.
I love Aidan's hair right now- it looks like a baby mullet.
