Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!

Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt:  Windows

Stained Glass windows
Trinity Lutheran Church
Ashland, Ohio

John 10:7 So Jesus again said to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. 11I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father."

Stained glass windows are a beauty unto themselves, aren't they? I just love churches that have them.

It's really humbling to hear the comparison of believers to sheep and Jesus to the good shephard. We were talking about this in my Hebrews class. Why do the sheep follow the shephard? What are they looking for? Food, nourishment. And in the same way we can find good spiritual food and nourishment in Jesus.

I grew up on a farm and sheep will literally eat until it kills them. What a good shephard we have in Jesus that he feeds us nourishment that is good for us. And that it is just the right amount so that we can grow in Him.

That is a beautiful church. We have stained glass in our church and I just love looking at it. I also love the light it brings in...so warm and peaceful.

Lovely! My grandfather was a stained glass craftsman and I'm blessed to have some of his pieces in my home. It never ceases to fascinate me.

The stained glass windows are just breathtakingly beautiful! I feel for you that some lowlife is using your good name to hide behind. At least it is good you are getting the word out.

Anita, especially:

In terms of Jesus being a Shepherd, I can't recommend J. Douglas MacMillan's http://www.amazon.com/Lord-Our-Shepherd-Douglas-MacMillan/dp/1850491984/sr=8-7/qid=1162696871/ref=sr_1_7/104-7096565-4381513?ie=UTF8&s=books" REL="nofollow">The Lord Our Shepherd highly enough. It's a series of talks on Psalm 23 from a guy who used to be a shepherd.

I remember him talking about a sheep that got lost and had penty to eat but nothing to drink - the grass just balled up in his stomach. Which is why it says, "He makes me lie down in green pastures... he leads me beside the still waters."
