Giving Thanks in November

Oh, I love my new oblique pen holder. I've finally turned a corner!
I'm thankful for the right tools, the right instruction, and time to practice.
Compare yourself with those who on the Lord’s Day hear nothing except the dismal sound of the world. What a privilege it is for you to hear the proclamation of the gospel!Bakker, Frans.

I like your 'aitches" (H's)!
Thanks, Heidi! I'm just learning this hand, so I've got a long way to go! I can see everything that is wrong with the examples, but I'm getting the feel of the pen, the nib, and the technique. Finally, I feel as though my practice will be beneficial instead of merely frustrating!
Is one of your favorite parts about calligraphy the scratching sound of pen to paper? I like that sound.
I like that sound, too, but most of the time lettering is pretty silent work.
Beautiful, Kim! I have a friend who used to live in Washington, D.C. and she was often hired to do calligraphy for different projects in Congress. It took a LONG time and it was gorgeous. Do you work for commission?
I'm learning that copperplate takes a very long time to execute! If I ever get good enough to offer it as a choice for weddings/parties/envelopes, I will have to charge more than for italic or bookhand!
I do work for commission and am hoping to begin working full time once my youngest graduates from high school/home school this year. Part of the reason I want to become proficient in copperplate is because so many brides prefer it for envelopes
Rejoicing with you. I know how important the right tools can be and how cool turning a corner is.
